David and Vanessa Maynard minister among the Isnag people of the Philippines. “We thank God for the opportunity to finally return to the village in the middle of February and find the Isnag believers banding together in new ways. The [group] of believers that went through the teaching seminar back in October, now regularly meet together to study the upcoming book that they will be teaching through in church. This is a great opportunity to choose which guy will teach the next lesson and discuss how that passage could connect to the audience. They also started giving a love gift of money to express gratitude to those teachers who give up hours in their fields to craft their lessons.
“The believers read through Galatians and immediately related to what Paul wrote about people coming and trying to make them slaves to the law. In December, a sect came through and shared for three nights. They didn’t acknowledge Jesus as Saviour and told people they should only read and follow what is in the Old Testament.
“Flor (in the yellow) heard them share that, stood up and replied, ‘You are telling us that we need to just do our best to follow God’s laws. I can’t do that because I don’t have that power in me. I could never live in a way that is pleasing to Him without depending on God’s Spirit living in me.’ Apparently, the sect wasn’t prepared with how to respond to that comment. Pray that the Isnag church continues to discover its identity as the Body of Christ and for the men in the church to grow in confidence as they speak in front of others. Also pray that more are able to attend our next teaching seminar this month.”
